Major: Earth Science/Meteorology; minors: Mathematics, Physics
Class Year: Senior
Hometown: Harrisburg, PA
Additional Information
The School of Science and Math program's strong science and mathematics reputation encouraged Mack to attend Millersville University. Location, campus environment, and the benefit of being able to play for the soccer team also contributed to his decision. In addition to soccer, Mack also participates in the YWCA Before and After School program.
Mack has always enjoyed math and science, and after seeing a video on tornadoes and hurricanes, his interest in meteorology was peaked. After taking a course on Space Weather and the Environment, Mack realized what he really wanted to do and is now pursuing his studies in space weather and the upper atmosphere. He values the size of his department, as the professors are always available, and the meteorology students themselves provide a good support group.
As a student of academic distinction, Mack is the recipient of the David Ingalls scholarship and has made the Dean's List all but one semester. He has had the opportunity to work with the Space Weather Prediction Center and help with a corrective space weather model. Mack has also been able to participate in the Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science (SOARS) program. He considers this his best out-of-class study experience, as he was able to see Master's and Ph.D. work, gaining insight into career prospects beyond undergraduate school.
Mack feels that his classes have prepared him well for life beyond undergraduate school. Discussing post-graduation plans with his professors has gotten him thinking about what he intends to pursue once he graduates. Mack plans to attend graduate school and eventually earn his Ph.D., working as a research scientist and professor. "Come in ready to work," he advises prospective MU students. "Really take the time to put effort into your education."
