The Distinguished Civic Leadership Awards is a CCERP initiative that recognizes notable civic and community contributions on the part of individuals and entities that have had a positive impact locally, regionally, nationally, or internationally. Nominees may fall into one of the following eligible categories: local, regional, national, or international figure Millersville faculty or staff member Millersville student Millersville alumni non-Millersville student (including pre-college) non-profit organization corporation or other business entity an institution that includes schools but not governmental agencies Award recipients are selected based on the following criteria: the nominee falls into an eligible category; the nominee has made a significant contribution to the local, regional, national or international community; the nominee's leadership or actions have benefited others or the community; and the nominee's leadership inspires or empowers others to become civically involved. Andrew Slack is co-founder and executive director of the Harry Potter Alliance (HPA). Under his leadership, the HPA has sent five cargo planes to Haiti, built libraries across the world, advocated for human rights, media reform, and equality on LGBTQ, education, and immigration. USC's Annenberg School of Communications has called Andrew's approach and theory of social change one of the "premier models of civic engagement for the twenty-first century." Andrew has been featured multiple times on NPR and the New York Times, written for the LA Times and CNN.com, given a talk at TEDx Rome and served as a keynote speaker at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum.
