Sorority Recruitment at Millersville is separated into two different formats. The first is informal recruitment, which takes place during the fall semester. Informal recruitment means that sororities must follow National Panhellenic Conference rules regarding informal recruitment; however, there are no set events that will include all sororities. It is up to you to find out about each sorority during informal recruitment. Formal Recruitment takes place during the first several weeks of the spring semester each year. Formal Recruitment is the process of recruitment that allows all sororities to work together to ensure that each potential new member has an opportunity to meet them all. Potential new members visit each of the sororities during set times and events, and eventually narrow down their choices.
A woman is eligible to participate in Recruitment and go through new member process if she is enrolled at Millersville as a full time student, who has completed at least college 12 credits, and has achieved a GPA of 2.3 or higher. A full time student is defined as having 12 credit hours per semester. She also must not be a new member or initiated member of any other National Panhellenic Conference Sorority.
To register with Millersville University Panhellenic Council, look for information to be posted near the end of the fall semester and/or the beginning of the spring semester regarding Formal Recruitment.
Each sorority differs slightly in the time requirements, but the following is a general guideline to go by. There is a chapter meeting once a week where you receive information about chapter events and to learn the chapter's history. New members have a separate weekly meeting to learn more about their new sorority or fraternity. Weekly chapter study sessions are optional for all members. Please make sure to ask about the time requirements during recruitment.
Each potential new member should be aware of the financial responsibilities of sorority life before joining. Each sorority will differ in their costs, so be sure to check with each of them during the recruitment process. Each group has some fixed expenses including: dues, new member fees, and initiation fees where you will receive your sorority pin.
