Starbrad Excellence in Science Award

Maggie Elizabeth Wallner

This summer I am interning at the Berks County Conservation District. I have assisted them with a new continuous stream monitoring project, as well as several youth education and community outreach programs on topics such as municipal separate storm sewer system regulations, macroinvertebrate identification, and stream health. My internship is also allowing me to explore other facets of local conservation through field shadowing members of the agriculture, West Nile Virus, and urban development teams. All of these have proven to be interesting and vital positions requiring special expertise, and have helped affirm my decision to pursue a career in this field. This experience is allowing me to gain the confidence needed to be productive and successful in a professional environment, and has given me the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills I have already learned, while teaching me every day.
