The Federal Stafford Loan is a guaranteed student loan (only in the student's name).  In order to obtain the Federal Stafford Loan, all first-time borrowers must complete the Federal Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN).  This note is generally valid for a period of 10 years (if a student's lender stops lending s/he may be required to complete a new MPN).

In order to complete the MPN, you will be sent to American Education Services (AES) website.  AES is the servicer for the Federal Stafford Loans.  You will need to create an account, unless you have already created an account for your PA State Grant application (it is the same account).  Once you create your account (or, if you already have one), log in to complete the MPN.  You will also need your PIN from the FAFSA (the student's PIN).

Since Millersville University participates in the Federal Family Educational Loan Program (FFELP), you are required to choose a lender for the Federal Stafford Loan.  Below is a list of our recommended lenders.  You are not required to use our recommended lenders or have an affiliation* with a lender to choose them.  When you are in the online application you will be given a list of lenders (you will see the four listed below) but there is also a link for other lenders and if you click on that, it will give you the full list of lenders from which you can choose. 
*The only exception to the affilation is credit unions - the student must be a member of the credit union in order to use them as their lender (it will be denied if the student is not a member).
