SPAN 509 (Undergraduate 409*) APPLIED LINGUISTICS: Analysis of the language as behavior and emphasis on the priority of the spoken language in a systematic study of its structure. Comparison with English to explain and avoid errors of pronunciation and syntax resulting from intrusion of one's native language. Required for degree.

SPAN 513 ADVANCED PHONETICS: Theory and practice in physiological and acoustical phonetics: Spanish phonology. Emphasis on diction, intonation and education. Poetry recitations and dramatic-text presentations in class and before student body are required.

SPAN 541 (Undergraduate 447*) HISTORY OF SPANISH CIVILIZATION: A study of Spain, with special emphasis on the historical development of its intellectual, social and cultural life and how the artifacts (works of art, literature, etc.) produced during a specific "cultural period" (Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassicism, Romanticism) reflect and/or define that style.

SPAN 587 (Undergraduate 487*) SEMINAR IN SPANISH AMERICAN LITERATURE: A study of the Twentieth Century Latin American short story through the most prominent writers of the genre, such as Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Julio Cortázar, and Rosario Ferrer. In addition to the original texts, critical essays about each author and different literary issues will be examined, as well as the historic and social context in which the authors wrote their texts.

Credits: All participants will receive 3 graduate credits for the summer institute.
Tuition/Fees: Institutes are unique 3 credit graduate courses, that highlight renowned experts in the field. Institutes include breakfast and lunch throughout the day, as well as handouts and materials. Books may be required courses, please check with the university bookstore. Millersville University graduate tuition and fees can be found on the bursars page. In addition, a $165 institute fee is required.
Note: If you have not taken any graduate-level course or workshop at Millersville University within the past 5 years, you must complete the online non-degree admission form; this information is necessary to admit you to the university.
