Quick Answers
Logging on to the Domain:
New Windows PC customers need to logon to Windows XP using their username and password. Push the Control-Alt-Delete keys together when prompted. Most likely your username will be there, example: wsmith (1st initial of first name - last name spelled out) Enter your Outlook email password in the password field. The third field, if displayed, should have mu_domain in it. You can select this from the drop down menu to the right of the third field. There is an options button that can be selected to display the third field if not visible.
Changing User Password:
If you desire to change your Outlook logon password, this is accomplished from the Windows desktop once logged on. After pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del at the Windows XP desktop, a window will appear on which you select the "Change Password" button. Enter the current/old password, and then enter a new one twice to confirm it.
Critical Updates:
Windows XP machines should already be setup to provide automatic critical updates to the operating system provided by Microsoft over the Internet. You may occasionally have to click on the yellow update icon on the system tray on the lower right to install. Updates are released periodically by Microsoft.
Virus Definitions:
Norton AntiVirus™ should be set up to provide automatic virus definitions daily. It should also be set up to scan your PC system daily. The times for these updates and scans can be changed as desired.
Screen Saver Settings:
The default screen saver is usually set to 15 minutes and will lock the PC with password protection. The password is your Outlook/logon password. Screen saver settings can be adjusted by the user as well.
Shutting Down:
You may either turn your PC off when finished at the end of the day or leave it on. If you leave your PC running it is recommended that, you enable your screen saver's password protection feature or log off your user account. To shutdown your PC, press the
button on the lower left hand part of the Windows desktop and select Shutdown. To Log Off User, follow the same steps for shut down but select the "Logoff (username)" Option.
