Community Outreach:

Its responsibilities shall include: developing and maintaining liaison with members of the surrounding community; as well as developing and implementing programs with the community which address mutual concerns with on-campus underrepresented racial and cultural groups and garnering the support of the community as necessary to support mutual concerns on -campus.

Cultural Awareness, Human Relations and Inclusiveness:

Its responsibilities shall include: the conducting of and programs intended to increase racial and intercultural understanding and offering lectures and colloquia pertinent to issues of diversity, and other appropriate activities and programs.

Ethnic Studies and Curriculum Diversity:

Its responsibilities shall include: reviewing and monitoring the existing curriculum and then to propose reforms to increase its cultural diversity.

Executive:

This committee shall consist of the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Assistant to the President for Social Equity, the Secretary, the Treasurer and two members at large.  The members at large will be recommended by the Executive Committee and elected annually by the entire Commission.  Its responsibilities shall include: budgeting, planning, recommending and reviewing Commission goals and program; nomination of new members; by­law revisions, and acting on behalf of the Commission emergencies between regularly scheduled meetings.  The Commission Chairperson shall chair this committee.

LGBTQIA Issues:

Its responsibilities shall include: exploring and advocating ways to ensure LGBTQIA equity and inclusion on campus; foster a University climate that promotes equity and inclusion as it relates to persons who are or are perceived to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/transsexual, questioning/queer, intersex, and allies/androgynous/asexual (LGBTQIA).

Student Excellence:

Its responsibilities will include soliciting the concerns of students from underrepresented racial groups, increasing the recognition of their achievement; overseeing a mechanism to showcase the individual pursuit of the achievement in an academic area by these students and promoting faculty development which will increase excellence among diverse students.
