Commission on Cultural Diversity and Inclusion
Funding Policy
1. Funding Application Deadline and Review.
Application deadline - Applications will be accepted until April 15th. Applications received after this date will be accepted at the discretion of the Assistant to the President for Social Equity & Diversity in consultation with the CCDI Treasurer. Applications must be received by the first of the month in order to be considered during that particular month. Please note that the Executive Committee and full Cultural Commission on Diversity & Inclusion must consider funding proposals.
Submission process - Applications must be submitted to the Executive Committee via the Office of Social Equity & Diversity located in the Delaware House. Please complete the Funding Application, print, and forward the proposal via campus mail to the Delaware House. Each application must include a description of the event or activity planned, a detailed budget, a list of other confirmed or potential sources of funding and a description of how the event or activity explicitly furthers the goals of the Commission.
Criteria for funding - The criteria for funding will be the concrete ways in which the activity will help create, sustain or promote a climate that fosters cultural diversity on campus and in the broader community. Students should, whenever possible, be direct beneficiaries of the activities funded. Funding will also be considered for proposals that contribute to policy developments that impact students.
2. Funding Totals.
Multi-day symposia - For symposia that take place over more than one day, the maximum funding amount will be $2000.
Single-day events - For events, such as guest speakers, films, artistic or theatrical performances and the like, the maximum funding amount will be $1000. For guest speakers and performances, the topic or content of the presentation must be shown to contribute to cultural diversity at MU, and direct interactions with students (via class visits, master classes, and the like) need to be a part of the program.
Research and travel - Faculty, staff, and students should request funds for research and presentation research at academic conferences from other sources available rather than from the commission. However, the Commission will consider funding travel to participate in workshops and conferences that clearly and directly provide the tools to contribute to a campus climate of diversity. In these cases, the maximum funding amount will be $500. Research on MU-based diversity issues by faculty and/or students will fall into this category.
If faculty, staff, and/or students are traveling together to such a workshop, each will be treated as a separate applicant, and will expected to provide a reciprocal contribution to the mission of the Commission.
3. Reciprocal Contribution.
Each recipient of Commission funding must demonstrate that their event or activity will concretely contribute to the furtherance of the Commission's goals. For symposia and single-day events, this will most likely be relatively easy to demonstrate.
Faculty, staff, or students receiving funding to participate in a workshop must contribute in an explicit way to the Commission and/or the campus community based on the benefits they have received from their participation in the workshop. Examples of contributions include development of the following for the campus community; programs or workshops that enhance appreciation and visibility of cultural diversity, culturally sensitive conflict resolution or mediation programs, institutional or academic research on diversity issues, presidential, administrative, or academic policies regarding cultural diversity, integrating cultural diversity in the academic curriculum and presentations at symposia held on campus to highlight cultural diversity activities.
4. Reports.
All recipients must submit a brief written report to the Commission that indicates the outcomes of the event. Recipients who fail to submit a report will be barred from receiving any further support, until a report is submitted. In addition, failure to submit a report may affect decisions on funding future requests.
