This year, Millersville University will participate in Lancaster City's annual Puerto Rican Day Parade scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2009 (Rain or Shine!).  The parade procession begins at 2 PM and will travel down W. Orange St. ending at Binn's Park, located at 100 N. Queen St., in Downtown Lancaster (between Orange & Chestnut Sts.).  Beginning at approximately around 4 PM in Binn's Park, the Puerto Rican Committee of Lancaster, whom sponsors this annual celebratory event, will provide musical entertainment via a live salsa band from New York City.

As a demonstration of Millersville University's support of the regional Latino community and our students, a diverse array of University students will walk/march in the parade procession, which will consist of 30-40 students holding banners representing a variety of campus groups and organizations and several University Police patrol units.  Students will also distribute various University trinkets and memorabilia along the parade route while other students will provide community service hours by serving as storytellers for young children who will also be attending the event.

Partnering student organizations and University departments include the Society on Latino Affairs (SOLA), Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc., Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc., Latino Studies Program, University Police Department, and the Office of Social Equity & Diversity.

If you're a Millersville student, faculty, or staff member and are interested in participating, please email Hiram.Martinez@millersville or contact us at 872-3787.
