The mission of the Northeast Latino Student Leadership Conference (NLSLC) is to promote education, train a broad cross-section of present and future Latino leaders and to create a servant leadership community that values diversity, community, cultural pride, and empowerment. The NLSLC provides opportunities for advanced leadership skills development and promotes unity among Latino student leaders attending colleges and universities in the Northeast United States.

This year's NLSLC will be held at the Newark International Airport Hotel, Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, October 8 - Sunday, October 9, 2010 and is expected to attract leaders from states including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginina, Washington D.C., and West Virginia.

Special Instructions

In order to ensure that you will profit, enjoy and gain from this professional development program, it is requested that each participant follow these instructions:

Dress Code

All participants should wear professional or casual business attire. No jeans, jogging suits, or shorts should be worn except for traveling. Appropriate dress is expected for conference sessions and evening dinners. Cell phones and pagers must be off and put away during conference times.

NO HATS ARE ALLOWED INSIDE FOR CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS.

PLEASE NOTE THIS RULE: STUDENTS AND ADVISORS ARE REPRESENTATIVES OF THEIR INSTITUTIONS AT ALL TIMES.

Student Requirements

The NLSLC demands a concentrated effort from participants. Selected students should demonstrate motivation and interest in campus activities such as mentorship programs, student government, community service projects, and other student organizations. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors who are maintaining good academic standing are especially encouraged to attend. Due to the transitional process required for student acclimation to the college/university environment, first year students are not encouraged to attend.

Registration

The OSED will select 15 - 20 students to attend based on their application and reserves the right to select which students attend the conference.  Students selected to attend will receive notification via email and will be required to submit a $20 deposit (cash or check) to the OSED in the Delaware House.  The deposit will be refunded upon successful attendance and participation at the conference.  If you have any questions, please call 872-3787 or ext. 3788.
