Spam

Email spam can be handled in a couple ways with Outlook and MU Email Administrator help at MU. Outlook XP/2002 and 2003 have a Junk Email filter that can be used.

  • In Outlook look under the Actions menu, select the Junk Email selection.
  • There are some options and you can add email to the Outlook Junk Email filter that you wish to block.
  • If you still get some stubborn spam, there is a Spam Dropbox folder under the Public Folders.
  • Click on the plus sign in front of Public Folders to expand it, then click on the plus sign in front of All Public Folders to expand it.
  • You will see various folders and one of them is the Spam Dropbox.
  • Drag annoying spam messages in here and the MU email administrators will do their best to block this spam from your email Inbox.

TIPS:

  • Please do not respond to unknown email or attempt to unsubscribe from it. Responding to spam often results in an increase of spam.
  • Never give out your personal information in response to email such as social security number, credits card numbers, addresses, etc. E-mails requesting this information are usually "phishing" messages trying to get personal information for illegal purposes.

For detailed instructions on how to use your junk mail features, please contact the Help Desk at x2371.
