Shuman holds entitlement to several athletic honors during her Millersville years, including being named a three time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year (1993-95), three-time NCAA-II East Region and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II championship (1993-95), two-time NCAA-II East Region Athlete of the Year (1994, 1995), earned NCAA-II All-America honors (19th place, 1993), PSAC champion in 1995 (runner-up in '94 and 3rd place in '93); four-time All-PSAC selection; champion in 10 regular season meets; and in track and field play, was three-time PSAC 800-meter champion (1993-95) and earned NCAA-II All-America status in the 1,500 meters (8th place, 1995 national meet); holds MU's 1,500 meter indoor record (4:45.66 set in '95) and ECAC-II indoor champion in 800 meters in 1994 (3rd, 800 meters and 1,500 meters, 1995).
Shuman has served as a volunteer with the annual Millersville Metrics Program and is a volunteer with Greyhounds Pets of America/Steel City Greyhounds.
She is currently employed as a financial institutions examiner/community involvement with the Pennsylvania Department of Banking. Joanne resides in Baden, Pa. and is Married to Dan Shuman '96.
