Head Baseball Coach - Jon Shehan

E-Mail Coach Shehan

First-year Interim Head Coach Jon Shehan led the 2008 Marauder baseball squad to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division title, its first division championship in eight years. MU also made its first playoff appearance since 2000 and won two postseason contests.

The unexpected success came from a team which had finished 9-37 the season before and opened up 2008 with a 6-20 record. Millersville then won 16 of its next 18 games to finish 12-8 in the division and 24-26 overall.

The remarkable turnaround earned the rookie skipper PSAC East Coach of the Year honors. Shehan's guidance helped his players earn four PSAC East all star nods, the PSAC East Rookie of the Year award and a regional gold glove.

Prior to last season, Shehan completed a two-year stint as the Marauder head assistant coach/recruiting coordinator. His duties included working with the Marauder hitters and catchers. He was given the tough responsibility of rebuilding the Marauder roster during the 2006-07 academic year. His first recruiting class resulted in 16 commitments, including nine high school signings and seven transfers.

As a the hitting coach in 2006, Shehan helped the Marauders improve their offensive statistics from 2005 in almost every category, including average (.267 to .307), on base percentage (.339 to .372), slugging percentage (.360 to .424) and homeruns (12 to 26).

Shehan, a career .328 hitter at Millersville, finished his Marauder playing career in 2004. He earned All-PSAC First Team honors as a catcher and led the NCAA in doubles per game (0.60). Shehan broke the Marauder single-season record for doubles (23) and led the squad in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.397), slugging percentage (.678), hits (48), runs (30), and RBIs (28).

Following his final season with the Marauders, Shehan signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Braves organization. In 2004, he played for the Gulf Coast Braves before earning a promotion to single-A Rome. In 2005, he was a member of the Appalachian League Eastern Division-Champion Danville Braves. Also in 2005, Shehan was the catching instructor for the Pennsylvania AAA High School State Champion Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers.

He is currently a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Shehan received a BSE in Technology Education from Millersville in 2006 and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Sport Management. Shehan resides with his wife, Lindsay (Millersville ’04) in Mount Joy, Pa.

Swift, who also serves as the team's recruiting coordinator, came to Millersville after two years at Chowan University in North Carolina. He served as pitching coach/recruiting coordinator and helped guide the team to 51 wins during its first two years as a Division II program.

Swift also earned an undergraduate degree in Sports Science in 2005 and was a two-year starter behind the plate at Chowan. During his senior season, Swift led the Hawks with 17 doubles, 36 RBI and a 21-game hitting streak.

Swift, during the following summer, coached the Copperheads into the Petitt Cup Tournament.

Swift is currently enrolled in the master’s program with the United States Sports Academy, located in Daphne, Ala. He resides in Wrightsville, Pa. and is engaged to Jennifer Patrick.

Assistant Coach - Erik Supplee

Supplee played an integral role in Millersville's drastic turnaround in 2008. He filled the role of first base coach and instructed the outfielders, including regional gold glover Corey Phelan.

Supplee came to Millersville after a successful four years of pitching at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. While at Marist, Supplee helped the Red Foxes earn three MAAC Tournament births along with a spot in the NCAA Regional at LSU in 2005.

For his career, Supplee compiled an 18-10 record in 73 appearances as both a starter and reliever. He was the ace of the staff during his senior season and led Marist in several pitching categories (ERA, innings pitched, strikeouts, complete games, saves, games started and walks per nine innings).

During the summer of '05, Supplee played in the prestigious Valley Baseball League for the Luray Wranglers. He helped the Wranglers to a regular season title and finished 3-0 with a 2.96 ERA. Supplee returned to the Valley the following summer to play for the Woodstock River Bandits.

Supplee graduated from Marist College in 2007 with a B.A. in History and will be enrolling in the Millersville University Sports Management graduate program.
