
Millersville University Women's Lacrosse Wins Third in a Row; 10-8 Over IUP
Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville University women's lacrosse team won its third consecutive game by defeating visiting Indiana ( Pa. ) (IUP), 10-8, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game on Friday at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Millersville improves its record to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC. IUP falls below .500 overall at 4-5 and is 3-3 in the conference.
Attacks Joann Caminiti (sr. North Wales/North Penn), Jackie Geiger (so. Lansdale/North Penn), Amy Longenecker (jr. West Chester/Barto) and midfielder Kelly Kemper (so. Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) each had two goals for Millersville. Defenders Elizabeth Weekley (fr. Pottstown/Pottstown) and Laura DeLuca (so. North Wales/North Penn) scored once. Weekley also recorded two assists.
Attacks Mallory Zelawski and Jackie Rutkowski and midfielder Kylie Miller tallied two goals a piece for the Crimson Hawks. Attack Alex Slinkard and midfielder Kelly Kummerer found the back of the net once.
Millersville led at the end of the half, 6-2. The Crimson Hawks tied the game at six with four straight goals to open the second half. Geiger got the Marauders back on the board with an unassisted goal at the 20:47 mark. Longenecker and Kemper padded the Millersville lead with goals separated by 26 seconds. The Marauders led at that point 9-6 with 17:23 left. Kummerer cut the Millersville lead to two with a goal at the 9:04 mark. Three minutes later, Rutkowski made the score 9-8 with a free position goal. DeLuca put the game out of reach with the Marauders' final goal with 4:23 left.
Weekley and Caminiti gave Millersville a 2-0 lead with goals in the game's opening minute. After a Crimson Hawk goal, Kemper and Geiger both scored to push the Marauder lead out to 4-1. A Miller goal at the 6:13 mark cut the IUP deficit to two. Longenecker (3:47) and Caminiti (3:09) both found the back of the net to give Millersville the 6-2 lead.
Millersville goalkeeper Patty Wesolek (jr. Ridley Park/Ridley) stopped 14 shots to pick up the win. IUP net-minder Katie Lee made 18 saves in a losing effort. Millersville out-shot IUP, 40-27.
Millersville is in action again on Monday, April 9 with a conference game against Shippensburg at 4 p.m. at Chryst Field.
