
Caminiti and Kemper Lead Millersville University Women's Lacrosse Past Shippensburg, 9-7
Millersville, Pa. – Attack Joann Caminiti and midfielder Kelly Kemper both recorded three goals in a 9-7 over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Shippensburg on Monday afternoon at Chryst Field and Biemsderfer Stadium.
Millersville stretched its winning streak to four games. The Marauders are now 4-5 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC. Shippensburg falls to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
Caminiti (sr. North Wales/North Penn) scored all of her goals in the first half. Kemper (so. Bel Air, Md. /Bel Air) had back-to-back goals in the first half and one mid-day through the second half. Also scoring for Millersville was defenders Elizabeth Weekley (fr. Pottstown/Pottstown) (two goals) Lauren Ward (one goal) (jr. Springfield/Cardinal O'Hara).
Shippensburg received a pair of goals from attacks Hannah Sperber and Kristin Crutchfield. Crutchfield also tallied an assist. Attacks Kate Irwin and Kelly Smith and defender Liz DiNinno each had one goal.
Millersville led at half-time 5-2. The Red Raiders tied the score at five with three consecutive tallies to open the second half. Sperber scored at the 20:25 mark. Crutchfield found the back of the net with 17:38. Two-and-a-half minutes later, Irwin scored the equalizing goal. Kemper quickly broke the dead-lock with an unassisted goal at 14:28. Shippensburg tied the game at six with Sperber's second goal with 11:31 remaining. Millersville led 8-6 with 7:46 left after goals by Weekley and Ward. DiNunno pulled the Red Raiders within 8-7 by scoring with 2:08 left. Weekley's second goal, with 25 seconds left, iced the game for Millersville.
Millersville came out hot in the first half with the game's first five goals. Caminiti scored the first goal. Kemper followed up with two goals. Then, Caminiti completed her hat-trick with goals at 21:03 and 16:35, respectively. Shippensburg scored the final two goals of the half.
In goal, Millersville's Patty Wesolek (jr. Ridley Park/Ridley) stopped 11 of Shippensburg's 18 shots on goal. Shippensburg's Lauren Marron made five saves.
Millersville will play again on Thursday, April 12 at PSAC rival West Chester at 4 p.m. The Golden Rams won the first meeting on March 21.
