HOLLENBACK LEADS MEN'S SOCCER PAST SLIPPERY ROCK; MARAUDERS SET TO FACE LOCK HAVEN IN PSAC PLAYOFFS
October 27, 2007, Millersville, Pa. – Millersville midfielder Tim Hollenback (sr. Aston/Sun Valley) broke a 0-0 tie early in the second half when he scored on a pass from teammate Ryan Kiley (jr. Bensalem/Conwell-Egan Catholic) as the Marauders went on to defeat visiting Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action Saturday afternoon at Beimesderfer Stadium.
In a very physical, playoff-determining battle that saw 13 cards handed out, Millersville was able to break the scoreless tie and hold strong to pick up the win in their season finale.
Starting goalkeeper Matt Langione (fr. York/Dallastown) made eight saves in the contest to pick up his third shutout of the season.
Slippery Rock, needing a win to clinch a playoff spot, picked up eleven cards in the contest. The game was ended two minutes and thirty-eight seconds early when the referees stopped the game after Slippery Rock’s head coach refused to leave the field when issued a red card.
The win sets up a semifinal date with second-seeded Lock Haven for the now third-seeded Marauders. The game will be played Wednesday at a time yet to be determined at Lock Haven University. Check back to the Millersville website for an update on the start time.
Millersville finishes their regular season with a record of 11-7-1 (10-5-1 PSAC) overall. Slippery Rock falls to 9-8-2 (8-6-2 PSAC), and will wait for the outcome of two other PSAC games to determine their playoff fate.
