NINE MILLERSVILLE FOOTBALL PLAYERS NAMED TO ALL-PSAC TEAMS; SMITH WINS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Nov. 15, 2007 – Nine Marauder football players were named to the 2007 All-PSAC teams yesterday. Five players made the first team while freshman quarterback Jamal Smith was named Eastern Division Rookie of the Year.

Offensive tackle Adam Cobb, return specialist Jimmie Cotton, defensive lineman Kevin Kershner and defensive backs Brandon Shelton and Marcus Banks earned recognition on the All-PSAC East first team.

Offensive guard Sean Plunkett, running back Brad Lantz and defensive lineman Jarrod Linn were named to the All-PSAC East second team.

Shelton and Linn are now two-time selections to the All-PSAC teams.

Smith (fr. Camp Hill/Trinity) showcased a solid arm for the Marauders in his first year under center with 63 completions in 164 attempts for 807 yards and four touchdowns.  The rookie also established himself as a very mobile quarterback and a threat to run, finishing with 633 yards rushing on 163 attempts and five touchdowns.  His touchdown total led Millersville.

Cobb (jr. Hanover/Southwestern) has started on the offensive line for two seasons and helped this year’s squad have the fourth-best rushing offense in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Cotton (fr. Sharon Hill/Malvern Prep) was dangerous on both punt and kick returns. He led the conference in punt return average with 13.7 yards per return.

Kershner (jr. Coatesville/Downingtown West) had the most tackles for a loss (nine) on the team for a second consecutive season. He had 30 tackles in 2007.

Shelton (sr. New Oxford/Gettysburg Area) tied for the conference lead with six interceptions and added 63 tackles. His 16 career interceptions are tied for the best in school history and he has the most interception return yards in Marauder history. Shelton also made the All-PSAC first team in 2006.

Banks (sr. Philadelphia/George Washington) led the team with 72 tackles and was 10th in the conference with an average of eight tackles per game. He also tallied one tackle for a loss, three passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Plunkett (sr. Jenkintown/Chestnut Hill Academy) started on Millersville’s O-line for the third consecutive year. Coaches describe him as a “tough player who is always playing through pain. He is a great leader with a tireless work ethic.”

Lantz (so. Towanda/Towanda) led Millersville with 931 rushing yards on 234 carries. He added four touchdowns and rushed for a career-high 152 yards against Kutztown.

Linn (jr. Gettysburg/Gettysburg Area) is now a two-time selection on All-PSAC East second team. Linn recorded 35 tackles, five tackles for a loss and three recovered fumbles in 2007. He also tied for the team lead with 2.5 sacks.
