MU WRESTLING TEAM TAKES  SIXTH AT PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS


December 8, 2007 – The Millersville University wrestling team took to the mats Saturday for the 65th annual PSAC Championships held at W.S. Tippin Gymnasium in Clarion, Pa.

The Marauders finished sixth in the team standings earning 51.5 points.   The finish equaled their finish from a season ago when they took sixth after scoring  44.5 points.  Edinboro ran away with the team title finishing with 152.5 points.


In the 125-pound class, John Andel (jr. Red Lion/Red Lion) fell to top-seeded and two-time defending champ Michael Sees of Bloomsburg in his opening match, but rebounded for two wins and a fifth place finish.  Sees went on to win the event for the third time in as many years.


Mark Stockdill (so. Laporte/Sullivan), competing in the 133-pound weight class, earned a fourth-place finish after falling to East Stroudsburg’s Matthew Swallow by decision, 6-4, in the third-place consolation bout.


Michael Greck (fr. Nazareth/Nazareth) took sixth place at 141-pounds after dropping his opening match-up to Edinboro’s Torsten Gillespie by a final of 10-2.  He recoverd in his second bout, knocking off Seth Creasy of Lock Haven, 4-1.  Back-to-back tough losses to Sean Carr of East Stroudsburg  and George Hickman of Bloomsburg ended Greck’s day.


Cody Becker (sr. Spring Grove/Spring Grove), who finished third a year ago competing at the 141-pound weight class, dropped his opening bout to Matthew Fittery of Lock Haven who went on to finish second in the event.  Becker recovered for a spot in the fifth-place consolation bout where he defeated Kutztown’s Chris Chambers, 2-1, by decision.


At 157, Jarrett Hostetter (jr. Oxford/Oxford) ran into Gregor Gillespie, the 2007 NCAA Champ at 149 pounds, in the second round after taking care of Dan Nauman of Shippensburg 11-9 in his opening bout.  He recovered for a 7-1 decision over Kutztown’s Dave Zeek, but fell to Clarion’s Travis Uncapher in the third-place consolation bout, 11-7.


The final placewinner for the Marauders came at 165 pounds, where Dave Morey (fr. Glen Mills/Garnet Valley) earned a sixth-place finish.


The wresting team will be back in action again Friday, December 28, when they travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. for the Wilkes Open.
