WOMEN’S SWIMMING: RAPP PACES MILLERSVILLE PAST EAST STROUDSBURG, 116-89
Jan. 19 – Freestyle specialist Kara Rapp (jr. Myerstown/Lititz Christian) won both the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle events to help pace Millersville in a 116-89 win over visiting East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon.
Rapp, who nearly grabbed a third victory on the day as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay, finished the 1000-yard freestyle over 46 seconds in front of second place finisher Amy Leiphart (York/William Penn). Rapp finished the race in 11:17.38 while Leiphart completed the event in 12:03.72.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Rapp outdistanced East Stroudsburg sophomore Christine Swiker by over four seconds finishing in a time of 5:31.46.
In the final event of the afternoon, Rapp, along with teammates Katherine Heldt (jr. Downingtown/Downingtown West), Ana Martinez (jr. Abington/Abington) and Leiphart, finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:50.45.
Other winners for the Marauders included Katie McDade (jr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.50), Sarah Johnson (sr. Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) in the 200-yard backstoke (2:16.00) and Becca Laufer (so. Mountville/Hempfield) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.37). Those three swimmers teamed with Amanda Wetzler (so. Hummelstown/Elizabethtown) to claim victory in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:56.06.
The swimming team will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, January 25th and 26th, when they travel to California (Pa.) for the Vulcan Invite. Action will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday.
