LADY MARAUDERS WIN SECOND STRAIGHT PSAC EAST CONTEST

Jan. 19 – The Millersville women’s basketball team improved to 2-0 in conference play after dropping visiting Mansfield 57-37.

Jenna Philo (jr. Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey HS) buried four three-pointers to lead the Lady Marauders (12-4, 2-0 PSAC East) with 12 points. Jenna Craig (so. Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown Area HS) added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Clarissa Correll led the Mountaineers (5-12, 0-2 PSAC East) with 13 points.

The Marauders never trailed for the second consecutive game and took control by pounding the offensive glass and causing turnovers. Millersville won in offensive rebounds 21-12 and caused nine more turnovers than it allowed.

A three-pointer by Ashley Moyer (so. Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest HS) made the score 16-7 with 12:38 left in the first half. Millersville would lead by no less than seven for the rest of the first half.

Both teams came out cold to begin the second half. The Mountaineers cut the lead to five at the 13:56 mark after a fastbreak layup by Emily Akins. The Marauders answered with their first bucket of the half, a layup by Raquel Green (so. Philadelphia, Pa./Coppin St.) at the 13:21 mark.

Philo’s second consecutive trey, the latter coming at the 10:08 mark, pushed the Millersville lead back into double digits, 42-31.

Another Green layup, this one with 8:53 to play, began a 13-1 Millersville run that upped the lead to 20 points with 2:21 remaining.

Kristin Kunzman (sr. Springfield, Va./Cumberland College) followed Green’s layup with two made free throws. Then Moyer buried another triple, Gladine St. Julien (jr. Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley HS) made two foul shots and Craig added two layups.

The Lady Marauders next play on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Kutztown. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
