LADY MARAUDERS RUN WINNING STREAK TO SIX; KNOCK OFF EAST STROUDSBURG 72-64

Feb. 2 – The Millersville University women’s basketball team won its sixth straight contest with a 72-64 victory over East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Guard Kari Cover (sr. East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) scored a game-high 15 points. Forward Jenna Craig (so. Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown Area) added 14 points.  Forward Gladine St. Julien (jr. Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) and Guard Jenna Philo (jr. Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) added 10 points apiece.  St. Julien scored all 10 of her points from the foul line shooting 10-of-14 from the charity stripe.

Kristen Murray and Jackie Yandrisevits each scored 14 points for ESU.

Millersville (16-4, 5-0 East) never trailed in the game as they jumped out to an early 7-0 lead capped off by a Philo three-pointer at the 17:15 mark.  East Stroudsburg fought back to tie the game several minutes later (11-11) before Millersville used a 12-0 run to take a 23-11 lead midway through the first half.  Millersville led at the half 33-28.

The Warriors (8-11, 2-3 East) made the first basket of the second half to pull to within 30-33, but that was as close as they would come for the rest of the game. Millersville went on a 7-0 run that saw Ashley Romanoski (sr. Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land HS) make a layup, St. Julien make three free throws and Craig make a layup.

The Marauders led by as many as 16 points late in the half (2:56). The game featured 51 fouls and 70 free throw attempts.

The Lady Marauders will defend their 5-0 division record on Wednesday night, February 6, at Pucillo Gymnasium beginning at 6 p.m. Millersville will play West Chester.  

The game will feature the first “blackout” of the season as all fans are encouraged to wear black shirts to support the Millersville basketball teams.
