RAPP EARNS SECOND AT ESU INVITE, WILL JOIN THREE OTHER MARAUDERS AT PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Feb. 6 – Freestyle specialist Kara Rapp (jr. Myerstown/Lititz Christian) qualified for the PSAC Championships this past Saturday at the ESU Invite with a second-place showing in the 1650-yard freestyle event.   She joins Marauder swimmers Sarah Johnson (sr. Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg), Katie McDade (jr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) and Becca Laufer (so. Mountville/Hempfield), who also qualified for the four-day event that begins Thursday, February 21, at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Rapp completed the race in a time of 18:50.69 and finished second behind Post University’s Stephanie Palmeri who finished in a time of 18:38.08.

Johnson, who qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 100-yard backstroke against Kutztown with a time of 1:03.05, improved her time in the event against Lock Haven at the Vulcan Invite to 1:02.86.  Her time of 1:04.00 in the same event at this past weekend’s ESU Invite was good enough for first place.

McDade, a junior who holds several records at Millersville, will also make the trip to Mechanicsburg for her time of 2:35.88 in the 200-yard breaststroke.  Her qualifying time came in a victory over York College and was just a couple seconds behind her own school record (2:31.77) in the event.

Laufer’s qualifying time of 1:03.02 in the 100-yard butterfly also came against York.  Despite setting a school record in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.73) at the Golden Bear Invite, the time did not qualify her for the championships.

Millersville, as a team, completed the season with a 5-4 record and earned solid finishes at both invites (second at Golden Bear, third at Bloomsburg Relays).

Action for the PSAC Championships begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 21.
