MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL WINS TWO MATCHES AT SHIPPENSBURG TOURNAMENT

August 31, 2007, Shippensburg, Pa. – The Millersville University women's volleyball team won both its matches on day one of the Shippensburg Tournament on Friday. Millersville defeated the University of the Sciences, 3-1, and took out Limestone, 3-2.

The game scores against the University of the Sciences were 30-21, 30-15, 20-30 and 30-26. Outside hitter Caitlin Rinker (so. Ft. Pierce, FL/Vero Beach) and setter Meredith Sinback (so. Fairless Hills/Pennsbury) led the Marauders with double-doubles. Rinker recorded 13 digs and 10 kills. Sinback had 41 assists and 11 digs. Outside hitter Kathy Howard (jr. Sinking Spring/Wilson) and setter Amanda Boger (sr. Beaver Falls/Blackhawk) pitched in with 17 digs and 16 digs, respectively. Outside hitter Emily Bires (so. Lititz/Manheim Twp.) added 13 kills.

Millersville defeated Limestone by scores of 28-30, 30-22, 30-27, 23-30 and 15-12. Sinback recorded her second double-double of the day with 46 assists and 16 digs. Howard led the team with 30 digs. Boger added 15 digs while defensive specialist Katie Mackereth (fr. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) had 11. Middle blocker Patty Pichardo (sr. Whitehall/William Allen), Bires and Rinker each had double-digits kills with 20, 17 and 11, respectively.

Millersville improves its record to 3-4 overall. The team returns to action for day two of the tournament on Saturday, September 1. Millersville takes on Molloy at 12:30 p.m. and Anderson (S.C.) 5 p.m.
