LADY MARAUDERS WIN SEVENTH STRAIGHT WITH VICTORY OVER WEST CHESTER

Feb. 6 – Millersville won its seventh consecutive game with a 73-63 victory over West Chester on Wednesday evening at Pucillo Gymnasium in front of a “blackout” crowd.

Guard Jenna Philo (jr. Lancaster, Pa/J.P. McCaskey HS) led the Marauders (17-4, 6-0 PSAC East) with 15 points and added six assists while teammate Aiesha Bellamy (so. Harrisburg, Pa./Duquesne Univ.) added 12. Guard Kari Cover (sr. East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs HS) chipped in with 11 points.

Forward Janelle Garber led the Golden Rams (12-8, 4-2 PSAC East) with a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds.

West Chester provided the Lady Marauders their toughest test thus far in PSAC East Division play. The Golden Rams took their first lead when Lauren Commodari made a three-pointer with two seconds left before halftime to make the score 29-26.

Millersville answered with layups by Bellamy and Raquel Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Coppin St.) to open the second half and grab the lead.

West Chester would retake the lead three more times – the final time on a pair of Dana Weems free throws – before Cover’s jumper at the 11:09 mark gave MU the lead for good.

Millersville – which ranked eighth in the NCAA East Region poll released today – led by as many as 14 late in the second half. The Lady Marauders have trailed for only 3:25 in 240 minutes of PSAC East play.

The Marauders treated the home crowd to a win during the first “blackout” – which saw fans dress in black clothing – of 2008. Other blackouts will be hosted at men’s and women’s games on Wed., Feb. 20 against Kutztown and Wed., Feb. 27 against Cheyney.

Millersville will travel to Mansfield for a PSAC East divisional rematch on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tipoff. The Lady Marauders will host Bloomsburg on Wednesday for “Think Pink” breast cancer awareness night. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
