LADY MARAUDERS PUSH WINNING STREAK TO EIGHT BEHIND STRONG DEFENSE

Feb. 9 – The Millersville University women's basketball team pushed its winning streak to eight games after a 62-39 victory at Mansfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Marauders (18-4, 7-0 PSAC East) were led by double-doubles from Gladine St. Julien (jr. Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley HS) and Jenna Craig (so. Lewistown, Pa. /Lewistown Area).

St Julien went nine-of-12 from the field for a game-high 19 points. It was the ninth time she led Millersville in scoring. St. Julien also led the team in rebounding for the ninth time by pulling down a game-high 12 boards.

Craig continues to excel since head coach Mary Fleig began starting her regularly seven games ago. She scored 14 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and recorded four steals.

Jenna Philo (jr. Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey HS) also had a nice game in scoring 13 points and burying three 3-pointers.

Jeannette Meacham and Clarissa Correll led the Mountaineers (6-16, 1-6 PSAC East) in scoring.

Team defense, however, was the story as Millersville forced 21 turnovers – while yielding just 11 – and held Mansfield to just 30 percent shooting from the floor.

The Lady Marauders, who led the 14-team PSAC in scoring defense entering the week by giving up 54.1 points per contest, held their opponents to under 40 points for the fourth time this season. Millersville gave up a season-low 31 points to Lincoln on Dec. 9.

Millersville trailed 4-2 for 23 seconds early in the half but grabbed the lead for good at the 14:50 mark when Kari Cover (sr. East Berlin, Pa. /Bermudian Springs HS) knocked down a trey.

Craig's jumper with 5:15 gave the Marauders their first double-digit lead (21-10). The lead reached 28 points when St. Julien hit a jumper to make the score 58-30 with 5:03 to play.

Millersville returns to action on Wed., Feb. 13 at Pucillo Gymnasium for “Think Pink” Beast Cancer Awareness Night. The Lady Marauders will host Bloomsburg for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
