ST. JULIEN, PARKER NAMED PSAC EAST PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FOR BASKETBALL
Feb. 11 – Senior guard Charlie Parker and junior forward Gladine St. Julien and were both named PSAC East Division players of the week for a second time this season in women’s and men’s basketball on Monday.
Parker (Fawn Gove, Pa./Kennard-Dale HS) was named co-player of the week after averaged 21.0 points and 5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Marauders (16-6, 5-2 PSAC East), including a 95-92 overtime win at Mansfield and a 75-62 decision at West Chester. The senior guard moved into fifth-place on Millersville’s all-time scoring list with 1,765 points as he averaged 21.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest.
Parker hit two free-throws with three seconds left in regulation to keep the Marauders in the contest as Mansfield hit a three to tie the game and send it into an extra session, where Parker added eight of his team-high 25 points to secure the win. In all, he contributed 13 assists, seven steals and a block while hitting 15-of-26 field goals for the week.
Junior guard Dave Ben of Kutztown was also named Eastern Division Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
Parker was also named East Division Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 22 after averaging 19 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in wins over Bloomsburg and Mansfield.He also tallied 10 assists and 10 steals, including a career-high seven against Mansfield.
St. Julien (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley HS) averaged a double-double (14.5 points, 10 rebounds) as Millersville (18-4) improved to a perfect 7-0 in divisional play and won its eighth-straight contest. The junior posted 10 points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes against West Chester while tallying a game-high 19 markers and 12 boards at Mansfield. For the week, St. Julien hit 12-of-22 from the floor and added four steals, two blocks and two assists.
St Julien was also named East Division Player of the Week on Jan. 14 after averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds during the previous week.
The men’s and women’s basketball teams return to action Wed., Feb. 13 against Bloomsburg. Tipoff for the women’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the men’s game to follow. The games will be part of “Think Pink” Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Pucillo Gymnasium.
