MARAUDERS HOLD OFF BLOOMSBURG'S LATE SURGE FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN
Feb. 14 – The Millersville University men's basketball team led by as many as 21 points midway through the second half but needed clutch foul shooting to hold off the pesky Bloomsburg Huskies in a 76-67 win at Pucillo Gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Huskies were a missed layup away from making it a six-point game at the four-minute mark. The Marauders held on by hitting 15-of-20 free throws in the final 4:40.
Charlie Parker (sr. Fawn Grove, Pa./Kennard-Dale HS) scored a game-high 23 points for Millersville (17-4, 6-2 PSAC East) with 10 of those coming from the foul line. Teammate Cory Bray (fr. Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion HS) buried six three-pointers and finished with 22 points.
Buddy Rose led Bloomsburg (8-14, 0-8 PSAC East) with 21 points.
Millersville – ranked No. 4 in the NCAA East Regional poll – took control in the first half with a double-clutch Parker dunk on the fastbreak followed by Parker 3-pointer that made the score 12-5 at the 12:38 mark.
A fastbreak dunk by Bernard Brown (jr. Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg HS) with 9:11 remaining before halftime pushed the MU lead to double digits (19-9) for the first time.
Millersville led 38-21 at halftime and held a 58-37 advantage with 9:04 to play before the Huskies went on a 14-1 run that ended over the next four minutes to cut the lead to eight.
The Marauders have now won four consecutive games and will next play Kutztown at home on Wed., Feb. 20 for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
