CHEYNEY RALLIES TO BEAT MILLERSVILLE MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM

Feb. 27 – The Millersville University men’s basketball team lost its second consecutive game after giving up a 26-point second-half lead in 77-69 home defeat to Cheyney.

Millersville (18-8, 7-4 PSAC East) exploded with a 14-2 run to start the game and kept it going by shooting 75 percent (18-of-24) from the floor in the first half.

Charlie Parker (sr. Fawn Grove, Pa./Kennard-Dale HS) dropped 22 in the first half, including four three-pointers, and finished with a game-high 31.

Reggie Bates’ (jr. Chicago, Ill./Hubbard HS) running three-pointer at the first-half buzzer gave MU a 47-30 halftime lead. Bates recorded 19 points for the game.

MU threw down a 9-0 run to begin the half and increase the lead to 26 (56-30) with 17:40 to play after a Bates jumper.

Four minutes later, the lead was still 22 points until the Wolves (18-8, 10-2 PSAC East) outscored MU 38-8 to finish the game.

Cheyney first unleashed a 16-0 run that ended at the 7:40 mark with an Edwin Braswell trey. A subsequent 8-2 run tied the game for the first time with 5:38 to play.

Parker’s pretty jumper at the 4:22 mark put MU up 67-64, but Cheyney ended with a 13-2 run as the Marauders hit just one of their last five shots and yielded two turnovers down the stretch.

Braswell led Cheyney, which clinched the PSAC East Division title with the win, with 26 points.

Both teams shot 59 percent from the floor and only 24 personal fouls were called.

Cheyney nearly matched Millersville’s first-half percentage by shooting 69 percent from the floor in the second half.
Bernard Brown (jr. Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg HS) scored 10 points for the Marauders.

Millersville, which will play its PSAC East quarterfinal game on Tuesday on the road, ends its regular season on Saturday with a game at West Chester.
