MILLERSVILLE WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM BEATS KUTZTOWN 22-1 IN SEASON OPENER
March 13 – The Millersville University women's lacrosse team won its season-opener 22-1 Thursday at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium over Kutztown, which was playing its first game in 18 years.
Elizabeth Weekley (so. Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown HS) scored six goals for the Marauders (1-0), which allowed their only goal of the game with 15:47 to play in the second half.
Ana Marmer (sr. Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove HS) and Amy Longenecker (sr. West Chester, Pa./Henderson HS) each scored four goals for MU.
Lauren Ward (sr. Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara HS) tallied three goals and four assists.
Jaclyn Geiger (jr. Landsdale, Pa./North Penn HS) scored three goals and Kelly Kemper (jr. Bel Air, Md./Bel Air HS) and Rebecca Barker (jr. Coatsville, Pa./Linden Hall HS) each added one.
Courtney Haggerty (fr. Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham HS) recorded the win in goal in her first collegiate appearance.
Kutztown, which reinstated its women's lacrosse team before this season, had not played in a women's lacrosse game since 1990. The Golden Bears are not a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in women's lacrosse, so Thursday's contest was a non-conference game.
The Marauders will play their second game of the season on Wednesday, March 19 against Shippensburg. The home match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
