Steffy named to All-American Scholar; honored by President McNairy
Pete Steffy, a four-year starter for the Millersville University golf team, was recently honored by university President Dr. Francine G. McNairy for winning the All-American Scholar Award given by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
The honor, which Steffy won in May after his senior season, recognizes collegiate golfers for their accomplishments both on the golf course and in the classroom. To win, student athletes must have a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average and have a stroke average of 76 or under.
Steffy is the first Marauder golfer to win this award since the program joined the GCAA 11 years ago, says MU head coach Scott Vandegrift.
“He absolutely deserves it,” says Vandegrift. “Pete is a reflection of what this award is all about. He did whatever it took from the day he came here to the day he left.”
McNairy personally congratulated Steffy and Vandegrift on March 7 and posed for pictures with the two on the steps of the presidential office.
Steffy posted an impressive 3.85 GPA during his final semester to attain the GPA needed to win the award. “I knew what I had to do to get the award and made sure that I got it,” says Steffy, a business management major who hopes to land a job in human resources.
Pete is the son of Randy and Kate Steffy, who live in Sinking Springs near Reading, Pa.
