MILLERSVILLE WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM DOWNS SHIPPENSBURG

March 19 – Elizabeth Weekley (so. Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown HS) scored five goals to help the Millersville University women's lacrosse team beat visiting Shippensburg 16-9 and improve to 2-0 on the season.

Kelly Kemper (jr. Bel Air, Md./Bel Air HS) added three goals while Jaclyn Geiger (jr. Landsdale, Pa./North Penn HS) and Kelsey Schmoltze (fr. Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland HS) each added two.

Millersville goalkeeper Courtney Haggerty (fr. Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham HS) recorded a career-high 12 saves, including 10 in the second half.

Shippensburg (0-3) scored first on a goal by Brita Paul with 27:28 left on the first-half clock, but Weekley tied the game at the 23:43 mark before a goal by Kemper under three minutes later gave MU the lead for good.

The Red Raiders scored with 3:19 left before half to make the score 6-5, but Millersville answered with four straight goals and pushed the lead to nine late in the second half.

Liz DiNunno led Ship with three goals.

Lauren Ward (sr. Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara HS), Rebecca Barker (jr. Coatesville, Pa./Linden Hall HS), Amy Longenecker (sr. West Chester, Pa. /Henderson HS) and Mary Houtman (fr. Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) added goals for Millersville.

Weekley leads the team with 11 goals in the season.

The Marauders next play at West Chester on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m.
