
MILLERSVILLE WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM SUFFERS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON; FALLS TO NATIONALLY-RANKED WEST CHESTER
March 22 – The Millersville University women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season in a 16-5 loss the West Chester, which is ranked third in the latest ILWCA national poll.
West Chester's Jackie Barker, who scored three times, recorded the game's first goal less than two minutes into the contest before Millersville's Lauren Ward (sr. Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) answered with a goal 90 seconds later.
The Golden Rams (3-1, 2-0 PSAC) then scored eight unanswered goals to take control and build an 11-3 lead by halftime. West Chester outshot the Marauders (2-1, 1-1 PSAC) 45-15.
Courtney Whiting led the Rams with five goals and Nicole Haines added a hat trick.
Elizabeth Weekley (so. Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown), Kelly Kemper (jr. Bel Air, Md./Bel Air), Laura DeLuca (jr. North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and Amy Longenecker sr. West Chester, Pa./Henderson) also scored for the Marauders. Rebecca Barker (jr. Coatesville, Pa./Linden Hall) recorded an assist.
MU goalie Courtney Haggerty (fr. Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) came under heavy pressure from the Golden Rams and recorded a career-high 16 saves.
Millersville will next play Bloomsburg at home on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
