FOUR MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYERS TO COMPETE IN PRAGUE

July 9, 2007, Millersville, Pa. – Four Millersville University women's lacrosse players will embark on a once in a lifetime experience when they travel to the Czech Republic to compete in the 2007 Prague Cup from Wednesday, July 11 until Saturday, July 14.

Seniors Joann Caminiti (North Wales/North Penn), Mia Gambino (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) and Justine Schroeder (Hatboro/Upper Moreland) and junior Amy Longenecker (West Chester/Henderson) were all selected to compete in the international competition.

“I am so excited to get a chance to play for a team in Prague,” said Caminiti. “This is the perfect way to end my lacrosse playing career.”

The four Marauders will be on American International Sports Tours (AIST) Blue, one of four American teams in the 13-team tournament. AIST Blue is in a group against the Czech Republic A-team and the German Under-19 team.

“I'm never seen any international lacrosse before,” said Gambino. “It'll be interesting to see the level of play in Europe and how big lacrosse is.”

The team consists of other collegiate women's lacrosse players from across the country.

“It's exciting to get a chance to play with girls I haven't played with before,” said Caminiti.

This past season, Gambino was selected to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) first team. Caminiti and Schroeder were named to the All-PSAC second team.

“This is a tremendous way for the three seniors to cap their careers. It's a once in a lifetime experience,” said Millersville University women's lacrosse head coach Barbara Waltman. “For Amy, I want her to have fun, but I hope that she uses this as a learning experience to help her next year.”

The Prague Cup is an international women's lacrosse tournament that started in 1998. This is the second consecutive year that AIST has sent teams to the Prague Cup. AIST selects teams through the use of statistics and coaches input.

AIST Blue opens the Prague Cup on Wednesday against the German Under-19 team.
