MILLERSVILLE WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM DOWNS EAST STROUDSBURG
April 2 – The Millersville University women's lacrosse team scored eight consecutive goals at one point and never trailed in handing visiting East Stroudsburg its second loss of the season.
The Marauders (3-3, 2-3 PSAC) won 12-2 behind a game-high five goals from Elizabeth Weekley (so. Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown HS), who entered the week leading the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in goals per game (4.8). Weekley now has a team-high 34 goals this season.
Millersville's defense held the Warriors, who began the contest averaging 13 goals per game, to a season-low two goals.
Amy Longenecker (sr. West Chester, Pa./Henderson HS) scored the game's first goal with 1:46 expired and Weekley scored her first goal 24 seconds later. Lauren Ward (sr. Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara HS), who would score twice during the game, assisted on both goals.
Ten minutes later, the Warriors (6-2, 4-2 PSAC) trailed just 2-1 thanks to a score by Molly O'Hara. But ESU would not find the net again until Tanya Welsh's goal with 14:29 remaining in the second half.
In between, the Marauders took control with eight consecutive goals, a streak that included defender Lindsay Toriello's (Glen Mills, Pa./Upper Darby HS) first goal of the season (first half, 4:22 left).
Courtney Haggerty (fr. Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham HS) made 11 saves in 45 minutes to pick up her third win before Madison Allan (fr. Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown HS) played the final 15 minutes.
Kirstin Mayberry made 22 saves for the Warriors.
Also scoring for Millersville were Jaclyn Geiger (jr. Landsdale, Pa./North Penn HS), Mary Houtmann (fr. Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Kelsey Schmoltze (fr. Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland HS).
Millersville will play its next three games on the road beginning with a contest at Slippery Rock on Sunday, April 6. The game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
