MILLERSVILLE SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH MANSFIELD

April 6- The Millersville softball team split a pair of games with Mansfield on Sunday afternoon. The Marauders took the opener 2-1 before falling in the nightcap, 7-5.

The Mountaineers (7-10) opened the Game 1 scoring in the second inning with an unearned run on a ground ball hit by Amanda Lewis. Millersville (15-14) would respond with a run of their own in the fourth on an RBI double by Trisha Johnson (jr. Nescopeck, Pa./Central Columbia) that scored Casey Coker (fr. Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West).

The Marauders would take the lead for good in the sixth when Coker tripled, plating Janelle Mrakovich (jr. Middletown, Pa./Bishop McDevitt). Courtney Eckman (fr. Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) set Mansfield down in order in the seventh to preserve the win. Eckman allowed just two hits in the game and raised her record to 4-3.

In Game 2, the Mountaineers took the early lead with an RBI single by Jen Stein in the first. Millersville answered with a pair of their own in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.

Mansfield would take the lead for good in the third, scoring four times, thanks to a three-run double by Gabriella Carrullo, and an RBI double by Jess Christ.

The Mountaineers would add single runs in the fifth and seventh to extend the lead to 7-2 before Millersville rallied with a three-run seventh, thanks in part to Mrakovich's fourth home run of the season, but could get no closer.

Millersville will be back in action on Tuesday when they play against East Stroudsburg. Originally scheduled to be played at ESU, the doubleheader will now be played at Pucillo Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday's scheduled doubleheader against Lock Haven has been postponed indefinitely.
