MILLERSVILLE MEN'S TENNIS TEAM RECORDS FIRST WIN;  WOMEN SUFFER CLOSE LOSS VS. WEST CHESTER

April 9 – The Millersville University men's tennis team recorded its first win of the season with a 9-0 shutout of West Chester on Wednesday while the women dropped their match 5-4 to the Golden Rams.

Millersville No. 1 singles player Chris Matisse (sr. Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area HS) won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to record his team-best fourth win. Mattise also paired with Drew Slocum (fr. Shaverton, Pa./Dallas HS), who won a No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-4, to win the No. 1 doubles match 8-3.

All six of the Marauders' singles competitors won in straight sets. The closest the Golden Rams (0-6, 0-2 PSAC) came to winning a set was when Alan Day pushed Dusty Speicher (jr. Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser HS) to a 7-5 score.

Marty Markowski, Mark Treires and Corbin Holland (so. Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan HS) also picked up singles wins for Millersville.

The Marauders (1-5, 1-1 PSAC) also won all three doubles matches to record their first doubles wins of the season.

The women's team (1-7, 0-2 PSAC East) dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to West Chester (5-2, 1-1 PSAC East).

Kari Arrants (jr. Northeast, Md./Tome HS) won the third set 7-5 to take the No. 1 singles match and No. 2 singles player Jackie Jaffe (so. Newton, Pa./Council Rock HS) won in straight sets.

Andrea Konas (so. Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield HS) won a second set tiebreaker 11-9 before completing the rally with a 6-3 third-set win at No. 3 singles.

But West Chester also won three singles matches and won two of three doubles matches to secure the win.

Arrants and Jaffe won at No. 1 doubles for Millersville. Hannah Lolley and Lindsay Knappenberger (jr. Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe HS) dropped the No. 3 doubles tiebreaker 7-5.

The men's team will travel to play Bloomsburg on Friday at 1 p.m. The women's team will play Bloomsburg at 10 a.m.
