FAST START PROPELS MILLERSVILLE WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM TO FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

April 10 – The Millersville University women's lacrosse team scored the first six goals and withstood a late rally to beat host Shippensburg 12-9 and record its fourth straight win.

The Marauders (6-3, 5-3 PSAC) led 8-2 at halftime despite being out-shot 18-11 in the first half. MU was out-shot 39-22 for the game but scored on 75 percent of its shots on goal.

MU freshman goalkeeper Courtney Haggerty (fr. Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) made a career-high 23 saves to pick up her sixth win.

The Red Raiders (2-8, 2-6 PSAC) held Elizabeth Weekley (so. Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown HS) who led the conference in goals per game entering this week, to a season-low one goal, but the Marauders got three goals from Amy Longenecker (sr. West Chester, Pa./Henderson HS) and two apiece from Jaclyn Geiger (jr. Landsdale, Pa./North Penn HS) and Kelly Kemper ( jr. Bel Air, Md./Bel Air HS).

Six different Marauders scored during a six-goal streak to open the game. Kemper began the run with a goal 1:18 into the contest. Lauren Ward (sr. Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara HS) added a goal two minutes later. Longenecker, Weekley and Kelsey Schmoltze (fr. Hatboro, Pa /Upper Moreland HS) scored before Anna Marmer (sr. Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove HS) scored the last goal in the streak at the 15:37 mark.

Katie Irwin got Shippensburg on the board a little over a minute later.

Geiger's second goal with 15:07 remaining in the game put MU ahead 12-4 before Shippensburg scored five in a row to end the contest.

Millersville will next host West Chester on Saturday at 1 p.m.
