SOFTBALL TEAM DROPS A PAIR TO VISITING WEST CHESTER

April 19 – The Millersville University softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting West Chester Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 in the first game and 5-2 in the second in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader.

The Lady Marauders (17-24, 5-15 PSAC East) led 1-0 through five innings of game one, but West Chester (29-16, 8-10 PSAC East) managed two runs on three singles in the top of the sixth inning to snatch the game-one victory.

Starting pitcher Janelle Mrakovich (8-10) (jr. Middletown, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) threw all seven innings for the home team, surrendering just five hits while striking out one.

Millersville scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning when Mrakovich delivered a bases-loaded single that drove in first baseman Erin Hepner (sr. Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West).

West Chester managed just one hit through the first five innings but picked up three singles and a couple of stolen bases in the sixth inning to grab the lead.

Millersville threatened with two on and one out in the sixth but West Chester squashed the threat with a pair of flyouts.

West Chester jumped out in front early in game two as they scored a run in the top of the first and two more in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead.

Millersville drew within striking distance with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on centerfielder Alexa Ashwell’s (sr. Westminster, Md./Westminster) two-RBI single.

West Chester then added two insurance run in the seventh and Millersville would be unable to threaten again.

Shorstop Lindsay Hosier (so. Glen Mills, Pa./Whitehall) led the Marauders at the plate as she finished the day 3-for-7.  Mrakovich chipped in with three hits as well finishing the day 3-for-6 with an RBI.

The Marauders will look to turn things around with a doubleheader Tuesday, April 22, at East Stroudsburg beginning at 2:30 p.m.
