MARAUDER LACROSSE TEAM SUFFERS CRITICAL LOSS AT EAST STROUDSBURG

April 21 – The Millersville University women's lacrosse team suffered a critical loss at East Stroudsburg on Monday, falling 12-9 to the Warriors.

Millersville's Anna Marmer (sr. Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove HS) scored the game's first goal 55 seconds in but ESU responded with two straight and never trailed after that.

Kelly Kemper (jr. Bel Air, Md./Bel Air HS) tied the score at 2-2 at the 21:17 mark until the Warriors scored the next four.

The Warrior lead reached six (12-6) late in the second half. The Marauders (6-7, 5-7 PSAC), who have now lost four in a row, scored the game's final three goals but the comeback bid fell short.

Elizabeth Weekley (so. Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown HS) scored a game-high five goals and now has 55 on the year. That's the fourth highest single-season total ever by a Marauder. The record is 67 set by Cherie Meiklejohn in 1989.

ESU (10-5, 7-5 PSAC) now has a two-game lead over the Marauders for the fourth and final playoff spot. Both teams have two games left to play.

The Marauders will resume action with Thursday's home match against Slippery Rock (0-14) at 4 p.m. MU will close the regular season by hosting Indiana (Pa.) (3-12) on Saturday at 1 p.m. Senior Day festivities will be held prior to the match. The Marauders beat The Rock 18-4 and IUP 15-3 earlier this season.

ESU ends the season at Shippensburg (4-11) and against West Chester (14-1). The Warriors lost to West Chester 23-5 earlier this season but beat Ship 13-9 on April 5.

If ESU loses two and Millersville wins both, the second tiebreaker (head-to-head competition) would settle nothing as the Marauders beat ESU 12-2 earlier this year, putting the 2008 season series at 1-1.

The third tiebreaker, according to the conference operating guide for women's lacrosse, is as follows:

“Ties will be broken by the teams that are tied by the following formula: Total goals minus total goals against with no more than 7 goals counting in games where the differential is greater than 7.”

The third tiebreaker applies to head-to-head games between the tied teams, which means Millersville would win with a plus-four goal differential.
