SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY WOMEN’S FIELD HOCKEY DEFEATS MILLERSVILLE, 3-1

September 19, 2007, Shippensburg, Pa. -- The Shippensburg University women’s field hockey team got goals from three different players in a 3-1 win over visiting Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game on Wednesday.

Shippensburg, ranked seventh by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, improves to 6-2 overall (3-2 PSAC). Millersville has a 2-6 record (1-4 PSAC).

The Red Raiders got goals from Kristen Miller, Carolyn Swift and Danielle Haas. Megan Keener and Liz DiNunno had assists. Forward Melissa Barto (jr. Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) scored the lone Marauder goal. Back Emily Woodland had an assist (fr. West Grove/Avon Grove).

Shippensburg took a 1-0 in the game’s sixth minute on Miller’s goal. Miller re-directed a long pass from DiNunno into the top left corner. Ten minutes later, Swift doubled the Shippensburg lead with a goal on a penalty corner.
Barto got Millersville on the board with her sixth goal of the season just 38 seconds into the second half. Haas put the Red Raiders up 3-1 on a feed from Keener on a penalty corner.

In net, Shippensburg’s Allie Rutland stopped four shots. Millersville’s Jessica Heckman (so. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) made two saves. Shippensburg out-shot Millersville, 14-8.

Millersville travels to top-ranked Indiana (Pa.) for a PSAC game on Saturday, September 22 at 7 p.m.
