MALTESE LEADS #3 KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY FIELD HOCKEY PAST MILLERSVILLE, 3-2
October 10, 2007, Millersville, Pa. – Forward Alyssa Maltese scored two goals including the game winner with just over 15 minutes to play as the Kutztown University Field Hockey team won a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game over host Millersville Thursday afternoon.
Maltese assisted on the Golden Bears’ first goal that tied the game before the end of the first half. She would put Kutztown ahead briefly with a goal at the 41:26 mark only to see Millersville answer with a goal of their own.
Millersville midfielder Gabrielle Caronia (sr. Nazareth/Nazareth) slapped home a goal at the 53:27 mark off a pass from midfielder Meredith Dolinger (so. Nottingham/Oxford) that tied the game at two goals apiece. Maltese would quickly put the Golden Bears ahead for good scoring just over one minute later to secure the win.
Millersville found themselves with the early lead. Forward Kristie Testa (so. Lititz/Lancaster Catholic) found the back of the net after receiving a pass from forward Lynn DeAngelis (sr. Harrisburg/Susquehanna Township).
Kelley Healey contributed two assists for the Golden Bears in the win. Kutztown outshot Millersville 8-6 and held a 9-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The loss drops Millersville to 4-11 (2-9 PSAC) overall. Kutztown, currently ranked third in the country, improves to 15-2 (9-2 PSAC) overall.
The Millersville University field hockey team will take the field again Saturday, October 13, for another PSAC matchup with Shippensburg University beginning at 9:30 a.m.
