MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY FIELD HOCKEY BLANKED BY SHIPPENSBURG, 3-0
October 13, 2007, Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville University women's field hockey team fell in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action to Shippensburg University, 3-0, Saturday morning at Beimesderfer Stadium.
Shippensburg forward Danielle Haas led the Red Raider attack scoring a goal just before halftime and adding an assist on their lone second half goal that sealed the game.
Millersville goalkeeper Jessica Heckman (so. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) kept the game close throughout, making 14 saves before being pulled for backup goalie Kristen Holden (fr. Cookstown, N.J./Northern Burlington Reg.) who also made a save for the Marauders. Defensemen Gabrielle Caronia (sr. Nazareth/Nazareth) added two defensive saves to bring the team's total to 17 for the game.
Shippensburg jumped on top early scoring at the 12:46 mark of the first half on a goal by forward Kristen Miller. Haas' goal just before the half (31:26) made the score 2-0 going into the locker room in favor of the visitors.
The Marauders managed just three shots on goal. Shippensburg attempted 25 shots, 20 of which were on goal.
Shippensburg goalies Allie Rutland and Amanda Houser combined on the shutout. Each goalie played a half, both making one save.
Shippensburg improves to 10-7 (5-7 PSAC) with the victory. Millersville falls to 4-12 (2-10 PSAC) after the loss.
The Lady Marauders will make their final appearance at home this Wednesday, October 17, when they take on the top team in the country, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, for a 4:00 p.m. start.
