Kathy Cummings will begin her 16th season as Millersville head softball coach when the 2009 season begins this spring.
In 2008, KC directed the Marauders to three consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in school history. MU began the season 6-0, its best start in 12 years, and set a school record for runs scored in a doubleheader with 79 against Lincoln. The Marauders also snapped West Chester's school-record 16-game winning streak with a comeback 10-5 win in extra innings.
In 2007, Cummings and Co. ended the season with their 20th win, a dramatic
4-3 victory that snapped Kutztown's 22-game win streak.
In 2006, KC enjoyed her most successful season at Millersville by leading
the team to its first 30-win season (30-21) in school history. Cummings
collected her first PSAC Coach of the Year honor after taking a team
that collected 11 wins in divisional play in the previous two years
to a 12-12 divisional record and a fourth-place finish in the PSAC
East.
She also notched her 200th career victory with a 5-4 win over Kutztown in the Marauders' home finale on April 28. Carrying a 29-19 overall record, Millersville earned a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, the first-ever regional appearance for the Marauder squad.
Cummings also enjoyed exceptional success as the Marauders' field hockey head coach from 1993 to 1996. Her four-year overall record was 47-27-1.
KC was a two-year varsity letterwinner in softball at Southwest Missouri State University, from which she graduated in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. She also served as an assistant coach for the Lady Bear softball team in 1991.
The Foxboro, Mass. native received her master's degree in physical education (teaching and coaching emphasis) at Ohio University in 1993. She served as the Lady Bobcats' field hockey assistant in 1991 and 1992.
