The women's team enters this season with high hopes of improving its standing within the PSAC. Millersville improved from 12th in 2005-06 to seventh last year at the PSAC indoor meet and jumped from 12th to an eighth-place finish at the outdoor meet.
A strong returning group of women and some new talent should enable the team to improve further, but the Marauders will certainly have their work cut out for them.
Middle and Long Distance
Last season, Pricilla Jennings (jr. Solanco) finished ninth at NCAA meet in the 1500 and also won PSAC titles in the 1500, 800 and 800 indoors, allowing the middle and long distance crew become a force in the PSAC and on the national level. Jennings seems poised to establish herself as one of the top women in Division II. Rachel Hull (so. Hempfield) and Brittany Zuver (so. Central York) both scored in the 800 at PSAC meet. Hull also scored in the 1500 while Zuver won points in the 3000 steeple. Both have their eyes on the NCAA meet. Jess Leddy (jr. Hempfield) should be handling the longer distance races and looks to improve greatly from her sophomore campaign. Newcomers Rachel Yodis (fr. Phoenixville), Samantha Mulvey (fr. Home Schooled), Emily Francisco (fr. Bangor Area), and Brittany Arnold (fr. Annville-Cleona) are expected to add depth to a group that is already strong.
Sprints, Hurdles and Relays
Brittany Yanora (so. Northeastern) had a strong first campaign and was a PSAC qualifier in the 60 and 200 indoors and 100 and 200 outdoors. Yanora will be asked to take on many of the sprints duties in the individual races (100-400) as well as the sprint relays. Meredith Chura (so. Lampeter-Strasburg) will look to improve in the 400IH after her first year in the event, Chura will also be an important part of the 4x400 relay. Newcomers Liz Herzog (fr. Middletown North) and veterans Stacey Bernetskie (jr. Minersville), Tiff Kauffman (jr. Delone Catholic) and Krysty Geesey (so. Dover Area) will look to give this area a little depth.
Throws and Jumps
Michele Frayne (jr. Cardinal O’Hara) comes off a very good season that saw her record the 23nd best score in the NCAA for the heptathlon. Frayne is a threat to score in just about any event in track and field. She was the PSAC runner-up in the heptathlon but also qualified individually in quite a few events for the PSAC meet. This versatile athlete will be expected to qualify for the NCAA meet and be a one-person wrecking crew when the PSAC meet rolls around. Lindsay Clark (jr. Kennard Dale) is coming off a year of struggle and will look to return to the form that allowed her to score in the javelin as a freshman. Clark has also added the solid shot put and hammer throw to her repertoire and could be a key component to the Marauders’ success. Heather Miller (fr. North Western Leigh) will throw and Jess Rhyner (Fr. Quakertown) will jump, jumps, which should give the women’s team depth that they lacked in previous years.
