The Millersville University women's volleyball team has high hopes and six returning letterwinners in 2007. The Marauders are coming off of a 2006 season in which they went 18-21 overall and 2-8 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East.
Seniors Patty Pichardo and Amanda Boger will be the leaders on the team this season. Pichardo was second on the team with 96 blocks last season. She also had 287 kills and 72 digs. Pichardo is sixth all-time with 151 block assists. Boger appeared in just 56 games last year. She had 78 digs.
This year's junior class is made up of outside hitters Laura Navin and Kathy Howard and middle blocker Rachel Beneski. Beneski led the team with 147 blocks. She also had 280 kills and 68 digs. Navin was second on the Marauders with 507 digs. She recorded 246 kills, 66 service aces, 49 blocks and 47 assists. Howard was third on the squad with 468 digs.
Setter Meredith Sinback and outside hitter Emily Bires both return to the team after strong freshmen campaigns. Sinback was second on the team with 601 assists. She had 416 digs, 212 kills and 78 blocks. Bires finished second with 310 kills. She also pitched in with 188 digs, 43 service aces and 52 blocks.
Millersville also have a solid group on newcomers to the fold. Sophomore outside hitter Caitlin Rinker is a transfer from Florida Atlantic University. She missed her freshman season due to injury. Sophomore Marissa Lewis was a three-year starter and a team captain at Schuykill Valley . Freshman defensive specialist Katie Mackereth was a three-time letterwinner at Governor Mifflin. Freshman middle blocker Alyssa Koehler was All-Berks County Division 1 twice in high school. Freshman outside hitter Lindsay McDonnell was a co-captain of the volleyball team at Southern Lehigh.
