We now can meet all of your needs for bright, creative and energetic students. By completing the Project Form and/or discussing your needs with our staff we can determine whether your project is suitable for a service-learning class or a volunteer project.

Definitions:

Service-learning is when a service the students provide is directly related to the course they are taking and the professor has assigned reflections that help the student make that connection. Students may only be available for the specific time the professor requires. Relationships with faculty may result in an on-going relationship that will meet long term needs for your organization. The students will have the accountability of this being an academic experience that may be a required part of the course, in lieu of a paper or extra credit.

Community Service is when a student or student organization chooses to spend some of their free time helping the community. Some students may be looking for a long term experience while others may need to work on a short term or one time service project. Students seeking community service opportunities may use our data base and/or the United Way's Volunteer Solutions web site.

Work-Study students are those who are eligible to be paid by federal funds to either work on campus or in a community non-profit as part of their financial aid package.

Scholars in Service to PA are part of an AmeriCorps program that requires 450 hours of community service in a calendar year in return for a $1250 educational award. The students work according to their class schedule and over breaks.

Internship is a credit bearing experience that requires the work be related to the student's major or minor field of study and extends fifteen hours a week for the length of the semester. Timing:

Volunteer projects will be advertised to our student body as well as our student organizations. We will attempt to meet your needs in a timely fashion. Timing is everything. The farther ahead you can plan for your needs, the better our chance of meeting them. Students become busier the farther we get into the semester, thus planning is very important.

Faculty usually plan their courses a semester ahead so if inclusion in a course is the best solution for your project we may have to wait until an appropriate course is being given. If that is not possible we will try to find a way to solve your manpower needs.
