View Programmatic Structure (pdf)The Civic Responsibility & Leadership Center consists of student-centered developmental activities. In addition to opportunities to work intimately with faculty and others in the Public Scholarship and Public Impact Centers, its offerings may include but are not limited to the following:
- Volunteerism
- Public Sector Internships
- Civic Skills Training (for students entering internships in the public sector)
- Policy Research Shop - Selected students will be given an inside perspective on the policy-making process by providing them opportunities to research topics critical to municipal, county or state governments under the guidance of a Research Associate that could culminate in testimony before such bodies.
- Public Policy Minor- Students will identify a policy track, customizing the focus of the minor. Possible policy tracks include: environment, land use, law, education, health, identity, urban issues, or a policy track of the students' own design Students will be provided a variety of perspectives on policy questions, such as how policy is defined and affected by changes in institutions, technology, markets, and values.
- Distinguished Visitors
- Student Discussion Groups (e.g., social justice and public policy; weekly dinner discussions)
- Public Affairs Programs for Student Organizations
- International Exchanges (e.g., University of Vienna; Latin America; Africa)
- Leadership Fellows (for seniors only)
- Leadership Associates (e.g., for selected students to spend a summer in DC following the freshman year subject to Civic Skills Training)
- Student Publication(s) on policy, law or social justice)
- Activities related to MU’s American Democracy Project Affiliation
- Funding Opportunities-individual students and student organizations will have access to a variety of CCERP grants to subsidize the above experiences and activities
