SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Books, Films, Web-Based and Multi-Media Materials

An Official Publication of the International Sociological Association's
International Research Committee on Disaster (IRCD 39)


The Contemporary Disaster Review is published three times a year: February, June, and October. The journal examines a variety materials published on various aspects of disaster. The items reviewed? These items will include books, films, web-based, as well as multi-media materials dealing with the social and behavioral aspects of disasters or mass emergencies, including terrorism. The reviews will provide the viewer with a description or summary of the contents of the reviewed item, an assessment of the material's utility relative to its stated or implied objective, an assessment of accuracy relative to the body of knowledge known as "disaster research literature," pictorial, audio, and/or video-when appropriate-illustrations, an assessment-when appropriate-of the degree to which the item is "user friendly," as well as other appropriate observations offered by the reviewer.


Reviewers must be paid members of the IRCD.

Review Material. The material to be reviewed falls into the following seven categories (although every category will not necessarily appear in each issue):

 Review Contents. Reviews should include the following:

Bibliographic Information (ISA Style) of Reviewed Item
Complete Name & Affiliation of Reviewer
Summary Description of the Reviewed Item
Assess Its Efficacy, i.e., Its Usefulness, Purpose, Target Audience
Assess Its User Friendliness
Assess Its Accuracy by Applying Relevant Disaster Research Literature
Illustrations Via Use of Pictures, Audio/Video Scanned Into the Review
Additional Information Deemed Relevant by the Reviewer
