The Color Of Teaching

Our Mission:

The purpose of this project is to increase diversity in teacher education programs by developing collaborative partnerships among university service and academic departments and local secondary schools in urban communities.  Through both virtual and personal outreach efforts, this endeavor seeks to increase, and retain the pool of underrepresented students eligible for teacher education programs.

Our Focus:

q       This initiative demonstrates a way to intensify the State System and University’s ongoing commitment to equal opportunity and diversity.

q       This plan supports both recruitment and retention of ethnically diverse students.

q       It will aid Millersville University and the State System of Higher Education in meeting their goals to increase the number and percentage of African American and Latino students in freshman classes.

q       In addition, this program will improve the retention rates of students of color in secondary education teacher education programs.

q       With the successful implementation of this program, an adaptable recruitment and retention model will be developed that can be used throughout the universities of the State System of Higher Education.
